My Life On The River

Some Nature pictures from here on the river.....And a song that I like.

This song pretty much describes me....This is me, this is who I am!
I have muddy water running threw my veins.

Little Big Town, singing " Boondocks"

Boondocks lyrics

I feel no shame
I'm proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks

One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul
In the boondocks

I can feel that
Muddy water runnin' through my veins
I can hear that
lullaby of the midnight train
And it sings to me and sounds familiar

I can taste that honeysuckle
And it's still so sweet
When it grows wild
On the banks down at old Camp Creek
And it calls to me like a warm wind blowin'

It's where I learned about livin'
Its where I learned about love
Its where I learned about working hard,
And having a little was just enough
It's where I learned about Jesus
And knowin' where I stand
You can take it or leave it
This is me
This is who I am
Give me a tin roof, a front porch, and a gravel road
And thats home to me, feels like home to me

You get a line I'll get a pole
We'll go fishin' in the crawfish hole
Five card poker on Saturday night
Church on Sunday morning

Sunset here at the River on Monday.

I was doing some work near the shed where we keep the lawn mower, and I found this Tree Frog that had decided it was a good place to hang out for the day.

This is a baby Tree Frog...No bigger than a penny. He is hanging onto a blade of grass.

I took many pictures of this Dragonfly....Thought he was pretty, and made a good subject.

This Pelican had just caught a fish, and decided to fly away with it hanging out of his mouth. Look close, and you can see the tail of the fish sticking out.

I raised these Peach colored Glads this year. They make great cut flowers.

Another picture of the baby Tree Frog.

I took this one because of the Bumble Bees...This is the Bee that has pollinated most of our plants this year, since we have no Honey Bees around anymore.

I threw this one in because it makes me laugh...Its my dog. A full grown Black Lab, and she managed to get her whole body through the hole in the base of a big tree in the yard. There was some animal in there that she wanted to get.

Her cooling off after her tree adventure.

Just a bug that I thought was cool.

I like this one.... I was fishing, and this beautiful Butterfly landed close by....I managed to get this one before it flew. And I think I have this picture turned sideways. LOL

This will be my last post for awhile....I have lots going on with the Garden stuff, and many other things happening around here right now.
I will be around..... just won't be posting any thing new for awhile.

 Total Eclipse Of The Heart

We are having some bad storms in my area so I may loose power. Just across the Mississippi river.... they had 95 mile an hour winds in the Ouad Cities..... Lighting was bad. I heard some trees were burning from lighting strikes.
115,000 people out of power.
I don't know if its going to be that bad in my area....Mainly rain, and lighting so far. Its likely that I will not be around for awhile.

I love this song, and video....

The Vaughan Brothers & The Fabulous Thunderbirds

Hope everyone has a great Saturday. I am canning beans today.
And then going to a friends camp ground to relax for awhile, so will see you around later.

Heres some history on the Vaughan Brothers, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

James Lawrence "Jimmie Lee" Vaughan (born on March 20, 1951 in Dallas, Texas) is an American blues guitarist and singer. He is the older brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Jimmie Vaughan's style was influenced by Freddie King who gave him personal advice. Also two other blues guitarists, Albert King and B. B. King, were important influences. Johnny "Guitar" Watson was another important early influence (Jimmie says that he and his younger brother Stevie Ray Vaughan studied Johnny "Guitar" Watson more than any other single guitarist).

This first song by the Vaughan Brothers, Stevie & Jimmy..... is for all of the Texas women out there.

The Vaughan Brothers....Stevie & Jimmy Vaughan

"Good Texan"

Jimmie Vaughan developed his own personal style that is easily recognized. He formed the band The Fabulous Thunderbirds with singer and harpist Kim Wilson, bassist Keith Fergusson, and drummer Mike Buck. (The initial Fabulous Thunderbirds members were all proteges of Austin, Texas blues club owner, Clifford Antone). The band's first four albums, released between 1979 and 1983, are ranked among the most important 'white blues' recordings. These early albums did not sell well, so the band was left out without a recording contract for a couple of years (during the times when Jimmie's younger brother achieved popular success).

The Fabulous Thunderbirds got a new contract in 1986 and made several albums that featured more commercial pop-music sound and production styles. Jimmie left the band in 1989 and made a "duo album" called Family Style with his younger brother, Stevie Ray Vaughan. Before the album was released, Stevie died in a helicopter crash in East Troy, Wisconsin on August 27, 1990. The album was released a few days after the tragic accident (the listed artist on the album was "Vaughan Brothers"). The album was light blues-influenced rock with Jimmie singing on several tracks.

"Tuff Enuff"

I like this one a lot with Jimmy Vaughan ...You can see where Stevie Ray got a lot of his style for playing the guitar from his older brother Jimmy.
This was the most successful song for the group.

 Cucumber dressing recipe

Even without the Honey Bees our vegetable garden is doing well.
We are starting to get lots of stuff ready to harvest.

I picked Cucumbers yesterday, and today I am making one of our favorite salad dressing.
I decided to post it so if you have cucumbers, and like the dressing on your salad you may like this recipe. We love it! Its also good with chips.

Cucumber Salad Dressing

6 or 7 long cucumbers washed with the ends removed.
1/2 pint sour cream
1 quart Hellmans Mayonnaise
1 pint Miracle whip
1 teaspoon garlic salt
3/4 teaspoon onion salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

grind cucumbers with the peel on. This is the most important part. Get all of the juice out of the ground cucumbers, also if you have cucumbers with large seeds I remove them.
I put mine in a kitchen towel and wring the juice out like you would wring the water out of something.
After that just mix everything together, and put in to jars and keep in fridge. It keeps for along time.
Makes about 2 quarts

Why are the Honey Bees dying???

I really noticed it this year with all the flowers I have, and fruit trees....I seen NO Honey Bees. I seen other types of Bees but, not one Honey bee to be found around me.
I have had other bloggers tell me they have not been seeing them either.
Last night on the evening news was a segment on what is happening to our Bees, and it was then that I realized this is something very serious.
It is not just in America but spreading all over the world.
Although many scientist, and environmentalist have been searching for the cause no one knows yet why they are dying.
It says in this video that Einstein predicted, if the bees die, man will have only 4 years, and then they too will die off.
Are you seeing Honey Bees in your part of the country, or have you noticed the decline also???
