A little history about the story" The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow ", Written by, Washington Irving in 1820....I remember when I was a kid how much this scared me, It is my favorite Halloween story!

" The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow "

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is a short story by Washington Irving contained in his collection The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.,

written while he was living in Birmingham, England, and first published in 1820. With Irving's companion piece "Rip Van Winkle", "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is among the earliest American fiction still read today.

The Headless Horseman Pursuing Ichabod Crane (1858) by John Quidor

The story is set circa 1790 in the Dutch settlement of Tarry Town, New York, in a secluded glen called Sleepy Hollow. It tells the story of Ichabod Crane, a priggish schoolmaster from Connecticut, who competes with Abraham "Brom Bones" Van Brunt, the town rowdy, for the hand of eighteen-year-old Katrina Van Tassel, daughter of a wealthy farmer. As Crane leaves a party at the Van Tessel home on an autumn night, he is pursued by the Headless Horseman, supposedly the ghost of a Hessian trooper who lost his head during "some nameless battle" of the American Revolutionary War and who "rides forth to the scene of battle in nightly quest of his head." Crane disappears from town, leaving Katrina to marry Brom Bones, who was "to look exceedingly knowing whenever the story of Ichabod was related."

Founded in 1849 as the Tarrytown Cemetery, posthumously honored Washington Irving's request to change the name to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. 90 acres a place of peace and rest for those who have lived extraordinary lives, among them Andrew Carnegie, Walter Chrysler, William Rockefeller, Elizabeth Arden, Leona Helmsley, and Washington Irving himself. Irving's grave overlooks a smaller neighbor, the 3 acre churchyard from "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."

Extreme Pumpkins

SULPHUR SHELF MUSHROOM

In the Fall I go to the woods and look for Mushrooms that are good to eat....The one I find more of is the Hen Of the Woods Mushroom. It looks like a large brain because its color is mostly grays..
This Mushroom pictured below is the one I found this Saturday.
Its called a Sulphur Shelf.
Its very good to eat if you find it when its young and tender...This one was about 3 or 4 days to old to be good. We did find part that was still tender.
You just fry it in a little butter. I dip it in egg, and roll in cracker meal then fry it in butter. Very good!!!

This one weighed about 3 pounds. It was growing at the base of a large Oak tree.
