Well its that time of the year again....time to pay the price for living in this beautiful spot next to the river! Its also time for this song that I do every year when the spring floods start. I like watching this video because the photos are historic ones from my home town when the great flood hit there. After that flood, a flood wall was built to protect the city from the Ohio river.
Johnny Cash ~ 5' High and Rising "The Great Flood Of 1937"
It started raining on Saturday, and never stopped until Sunday afternoon. It was easy to see that the river was on the rise Sunday morning. It came up maybe 3' overnight, and more rain forecast for today! the national weather service says we will have major flooding with a crest on Wednesday....5' above flood stage. All I can say is, I know flooding is a part of life on this river. I have been through many in the years I have lived here. Something that I have noticed in the past few years is the floods are getting worse. Higher record breaking floods....I don't understand why that is happening. Like last year with the record breaking floods in Iowa. I hope we don't see that kinda stuff happen again this year.
OK, I went to youtube and got this because I cant deal with imeem only playing 30 seconds!
Floyd Cramer ~ Last date
Happy weekend streamers! Hope you enjoy Floyd Cramer, and some of my pictures from Kentucky. I am posting this now because like most weekend are with me, I will not have much time to be on the computer. So I hope everyone has a good one. I will be blogging every chance I get....That means when the old grouch is not looking!
This was the sunrise here at the river this morning. We had a low fog hanging close to the ground which gave it a nice affect!
When I was in Kentucky a few weeks ago, we bought this rocking chair from an Amish family. Had fun visiting with the Father. His wife was shy, and went in the house, but his two little girls stayed. They were so cute, with their work boots on... A dress about down to their ankles, and of course bonnets on their heads.
I took this one at the place where we bought the Rocker. I really wanted to take a picture of the little girls, but I know they don't believe in pictures.
Amish man working his field with a team of horses.
I think I got caught taking this picture. As you can see he is looking right at me!
Its like going back in time when you live near the Amish. They live much like people lived in the 1800, except they will use gas powered motors for some things, but not a lawn mower. I know this Amish family, that the boys found a way to hitch their pony to the push lawn mower. It was the cutest thing to watch, but again could not get a picture.
Its not uncommon for the Buggies to get hit by cars. The roads down their are very narrow, with sharp curves. Most of the time there is no shoulder, so their is no place to go to avoid getting hit. One Amish family we know in Wisconsin had a Father in Kentucky that was hit by a car, and was nearly killed. Did kill the horse.
This last one is my favorite!
My Brothers dog Sally.
Sally doing what she loves to do.
This dog never stops! She wants to retrieve none stop all day long!
The creek at my Brothers place. Its beautiful there. I spend as much time as I can just walking down it looking for artifacts, and fossils.
I like the old barns, not many left these days, and looks like this one is about done for too.
