I enjoying reading about our history, and war history is my favorite subject.
When sitting at the airport waiting for my flight I went looking for something to read, and I found a magazine on the Civil War,so I bought
it,and I wanted to share some of it with y'all. This first picture is of the Confederate flag, and how much it sold for
at auction recently.
Banners of Dixie
Confederate regimental, and battle flags epitomized the heart and soul of Southern soldiers, and despite the high mortality of color bearers, men vied for the honor of carrying their units emblems into battle. These three banners, two of which were captured by Union troops, recently sold at a auction Galleries sale in Nashville,Tenn.
4th Tennessee Infantry twelve six pointed stars ornament this banner, although only 11 states formally joined the confederacy, the extra star paid tribute to the men who served in the Rebel army from the boarder states of Missouri, and Maryland.
The flag was carried at Shiloh, and proudly displayed at a reunion of veterans of that fight....
It sold for...........$101,575

This picture is small, but it was 3rd. Tennessee Infantry Regimental Flag. It sold for...$101,575

Virginia Regimental Flag...Belonging to the 9th Virginia, when they retreated to Appomattox.
It Sold for............$59,750

CIVILIANS WOULD
Never forget the sight of Dr's cutting off peoples arms, and legs, and throwing them out...just like throwin' out old sticks

Three other bloodbaths....

Chickamauga Sept,19-20 1863 Confederate dead..18,454

Total count just for these
Battles and Antietam ..........................23,000
Total .......................................138,853
Remember that is not counting the ones that died later from their wounds, and other battles that I did not list!
More soldiers lost there lives fighting the Civil War,than all the other wars we fought put together! That is shocking to me....
I have not studied it enough to know the total number dead when the war finally ended!
