Every summer we have a killdeer nesting somewhere close by. Seems the nest is always right in a place that we have to go to alot, and we spend what ever time it takes for them to hatch and leave, trying to protect, and not disturb the nesting birds anymore than we have to. Well this year they built their nest right in the middle of our gravel lane.....We had to drive over it to get in and out of our place... She would of course do the broken wing thing to draw us away from the nest. We made sure everyone knew not to run it over..... but another part of nature took place on Tuesday night...I love nature but somethings that take place I would rather not know about! Either a coon, possum, maybe a snake???? We are not sure because there are so many animals that rob nest, and eat eggs!!! but anyway when we checked the nest Wednesday morning the eggs were gone, and little white stone she had place in a circle were mixed up with the others so we know what ever it was moved around alot as it was getting the eggs! I'm sure the killdeer are busy now starting over... I just hope they pick a better spot than the middle of our gravel lane! This video I got off youtube....just so you know are lane is not in a mess like this road is!
I hope all of you have a safe, and fun 4th of July ! I will be in and out for the next couple days.Gonna do some fishing, and hang out with my River Rat friends, and party!
I had a great view of it last night, and hope to again tonight! It did look so hugh from here....Hope you get to view it also!
Summer Moon Illusion
Sometimes you can't believe your eyes. This weekend is one of those times.
On Saturday night, June 30th, step outside at sunset and look around. You'll see a giant moon rising in the east. It looks like Earth's moon with the usual craters and seas, but something's wrong. This full moon is strangely inflated. It's huge!
You've just experienced the Moon Illusion.
Sky watchers have known for thousands of years that low-hanging moons look unnaturally big. Cameras don't see it, but human eyes do; it's a genuine illusion.
